Is Dropbox Transfer better than WeTransfer?

On free-tier file size, yes — Dropbox Transfer allows up to 100GB on free vs WeTransfer's 3GB. On simplicity for one-off transfers to non-power-users, WeTransfer wins (no account required, universally recognized URL). The right choice depends on whether you're already a Dropbox user.

Do recipients need a Dropbox or WeTransfer account?

Neither requires the recipient to have an account. Both deliver via a public download link that anyone with the URL can access. WeTransfer doesn't even require the sender to have an account on the free tier; Dropbox Transfer does require a free Dropbox account to send.

Can I send files larger than 100GB with Dropbox Transfer?

On paid Dropbox plans, yes — Professional and Business tiers raise the per-transfer limit higher. The effective ceiling is bounded by your storage quota (2TB on Plus, 3TB on Professional). For massive transfers (500GB+), Filemail or Dropbox Business is more appropriate.

Can I brand a Dropbox Transfer or WeTransfer link with my own domain?

Neither service supports custom-domain delivery on the link itself. Both allow custom background images on the transfer page (Dropbox Professional, WeTransfer Ultimate) but the URL still reads dropbox.com or wetransfer.com. For full domain branding, BulkShare Pro ($29/mo) is the simplest option.

What's the best alternative for branded client delivery?

BulkShare. Custom-domain delivery on Pro ($29/mo) means clients receive files at files.youragency.com — the link, the download page, and the email all carry your brand. Designed for agencies and studios where the file IS the deliverable and the handoff IS the brand moment.

WeTransfer

Dropbox Transfer vs WeTransfer

Dropbox's response to WeTransfer. Both let you send a file to someone without making them an account. Both have free tiers. Both have paid upgrades. Here's how they actually differ — and why neither is the right choice for branded agency client delivery.

The short answer

WeTransfer wins on standalone simplicity and brand recognition. Dropbox Transfer wins if you're already paying for Dropbox and want sharing without a separate bill. Neither delivers files on your own brand domain.

Decision guide

When each one wins

Choose Dropbox Transfer

You already pay for Dropbox. Adding Transfer is free with your existing plan and lets you push up to 100GB without uploading to a separate service. Files flow from your existing Dropbox folders straight into a transfer link.

Choose WeTransfer

You don't already have Dropbox and don't want another login. WeTransfer is the zero-friction default: open wetransfer.com, drop a file, get a link, send. Universal brand recognition means clients open the link without hesitation.

Pick neither when…

Your delivery is part of your brand. Both tools force your client through a third-party-branded download page (dropbox.com or wetransfer.com). For agencies and studios where the link itself is a brand touchpoint, the answer is BulkShare's custom-domain delivery, not picking the lesser evil.

BulkShare is the answer when 'whose URL does my client see?' actually matters.

Custom-domain delivery on Pro ($29/mo) — files arrive at files.youragency.com, not dropbox.com or wetransfer.com.
Per-link password + expiry without upgrading to a top-tier plan.
Real-time open/download notifications — designed for client-facing teams.
up to 5 seats included (no per-seat upcharge) instead of per-seat pricing.
Built for branded client delivery as the core use case, not as a feature of cloud storage or transfer service.

Dropbox Transfer vs WeTransfer — FAQ

Yes, with limits. Dropbox Transfer is included on every Dropbox tier including the free Basic plan (which allows transfers up to 100GB but requires a Dropbox account to send). Paid Dropbox tiers add features like password protection, custom branding, and longer storage.
